With five family members having received a life-altering diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and it’s strong genetic factor that can affect children and grandchildren, David Derrick, founder of Tula, set out to create a platform that would optimize the health of his family and the millions of people worldwide who face the daily challenges of blood sugar imbalance. Diabetes management programs at the time offered little. David’s intention was to “rise above” the existing platforms.

Along my journey to develop a comprehensive blood sugar management platform for those living with diabetes, our company, Tula was born. The name Tula is derived from the Samoan phrase ‘tula’i i luga’ or ‘rise above,’ and is connected to my family’s heritage.
